It has been a long two years since I last posted on Substack - yet people have kept subscribing, indicating to me that there was, and still is continuing value in all of the Substacks I have written.
For that I am grateful.
But where have I been?
For those that don’t know me, I am Liz Wright, an Australian Paralympic medalist, speaker, writer, who was living in the UK.
I am back in Australia and have been since early 2022. I have been working at the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), firstly as the disability affairs reporter and now as a reporter with ABC Sport.
Moving back to Australia was hard and easy at the same time. I was leaving behind all of my friendships and opportunities that I have developed over 13 years in the UK, to come back to family in Australia and a job opportunity of a lifetime.
It is an exciting year ahead, with ABC Sport, where I feel I have come back full circle, reporting on the Paris Paralympics. A Paralympian now reporting on the Paralympics, pretty damn cool.
I am still speaking and emceeing as well, having had the honour to emcee two of the biggest Disability sector conferences in 2023.
I am not sure what I will be doing to Disability Allyship, as my life has changed a lot, but while I think of how to move forward, I wanted to share with you some of the articles I have written for the ABC over the past two years. They are all disability focused and may be of use.
Our understanding of limb difference is changing, and these young Australians are leading the way.
Royal commission hears Australian disability enterprise workers paid as little as $2.50 an hour.
How disabled women athletes are helping mainstream sport clubs become more inclusive
These are a few of my highlights, including covering the Disability Royal Commission, and beginning my coverage with Para sport.
Let me know your thoughts on how I can be of use to you… perhaps I can share links to articles that are helpful… to start with.
I wish you all a happy and peaceful 2024.
Liz
