Hey Liz, I’m part of the NSEAD anti-ableist special interest group, we’re exploring how to ensure our art curriculum is ant-ableist, any advice gratefully received, if you’d like to attend a meeting on Zoom we’d love to speak with you xx
Thanks Jess, keep an eye out for Newsletter number 2 tomorrow! Do let me know as well if there is anything specifically you would like me to talk about or explore or give advice on. xx
Thanks Rachel, I'm so glad that you have enjoyed the newsletter and subscribed... I'm curious to keep conversations going and see if there are particular topics readers want me to discuss, so do please keep on contributing. x
Hi Liz, I was thinking about how joined up working with existing technology could help so many more people whatever their challenges may be. For example, the deaf market equipment has been pretty stagnant but there are mainstream technologies if used when making hearing aid or cochlear processor could be even better. A simple one which I find hard to comprehend- why is my processor not waterproof? Phones and other electronic devices are waterproof. This is an example where joined up thinking would help make equipment better. x
Hi Rachel, yes, I have actually been reading a few articles about how innovations for everybody are actually proving to be hugely beneficial in increasing accessibility for disabled people. And yet they were designed without thought about disability. There is a massive disconnect between the design world and disability community that needs to be bridged. x
Hi Liz, I agree too often the design disconnect in technology means the tech is not as good or helpful as it could be. I have drafted a blog that will be shared tomorrow at some point on how some people are trying to address this disconnect. Hopefully we will get asked for our views more often. I certainly have plenty of ideas which could improve cochlear processors. x
